Organic Lawn Care Services

Initial Assessment and Recommendations – Our experts at Jessica’s Garden are available to meet with you for a complimentary consultation.  We’ll have a sample of your soil analyzed by the University of Connecticut Department of Plant Science.  Based on the results, we’ll recommend the most effective steps to give your lawn balance, health, and beauty.

Fertilizer and Pre-emergent Applications – An application of organic fertilizer, applied two to three times a year, will dramatically improve the condition and health of your soil. A pre-emergent application in the spring is used for the control of crabgrass.

Composting – Rich, organic compost is spread on your lawn to increase the organic matter in your soil.  This provides more “food” for the microorganisms in your lawn, resulting in more nutrients absorbed by the roots.

Compost Tea Application – Regular applications of compost tea, a rich liquid brewed from compost, make the benefits of compost go even further, and you’ll see results even faster.  By improving the nutrient retention in the soil, compost tea improves plant color, size, quality, quantity, flavor, and nutrients. It is also important for disease prevention and the decomposition of toxic materials in your soil.

Core Aeration – When soil is compacted, it cannot easily absorb water and nutrients, and becomes more conducive to weed growth.  Aeration is the process of removing small cores of soil to allow air, moisture, fertilizer, or compost to reach the root zone.  The aerator pulls out one- to two-inch plugs of soil and turf, leaving them to decompose naturally back into your lawn.  This process reduces thatch build-up and creates ideal conditions for grass growth.

Grub Control and Prevention – Jessica’s Garden employs the use of beneficial nematodes, microscopic worms that are successful in attacking grubs and other soil pests. Preventing grubs in your soil is made easy with the use of Milky Spore, a naturally occurring bacterium that attacks grubs and stays active in your soil for the long term to work on any remaining grub larvae.  The absence of grubs naturally leads to a control of moles and voles in your lawn.
